Lab Services: Mold (Mould) Testing
Molds (Moulds) are various types of fungi that grow in multicellular filaments and reproduce by forming spores. Mould may grow indoors or outdoors and thrives in damp, warm, and humid environments. Mold can be found in essentially any environment or season potentially increasing health risks in your environment.
The most common types of household mold that are found indoors include Cladosporium, Penicillium, Alternaria, and Aspergillus. Stachybotrys chartarum (also known as Stachybotrys atra and sometimes referred to as “black mold”) is a greenish-black mould that can also be found indoors, although it is less common than the other types of mould found in homes, but is considered more hazardous. Stachybotrys grows on household surfaces that have high cellulose content, such as wood, fiberboard, gypsum board, and paper. It can also be found on dust and lint.
Like asbestos, lead and other hazardous materials, mold can be a serious threat to children and adults alike. It can grow unchecked and unseen very easily and thrives in areas that are seldom seen (like basements, crawl spaces, attics, under carpets and within walls).
At ACM Environmental we know how important it is to reduce occurrences of hazardous mold. Our expert team of professionals have helped home and building owners and managers in Vancouver, the lower mainland and throughout all of British Columbia to ensure the safety of their properties and those within.
Mold Sample Testing Services
We are able to analyze allergenic, pathogenic, and toxic mold by collecting bulk samples, air samples, and tape lift samples.
Airborne mold samples; many forms of mold can cause adverse health symptoms and should not be inhaled. That is why it is important to have an airborne analysis, especially when children or the elderly are regularly present in an area. We use both stationary and portable mould collection methods.
Bulk mold samples; these samples are visible to the naked eye and are usually collected by cutting
a piece of carpet, drywall, etc. and bringing it into the lab for analysis. It is important to follow the proper safety, and chain of custody procedures to ensure the health of all participating in the collection, transport, and analysis.
Tape lift mold samples; if a surface is suspected of carrying harmful mould, and collecting a bulk sample of the surface would cause too much damage, collecting a tape lift sample for analysis is often enough to objectively decide whether the suspicion is valid.
Our team of professionals have in-depth knowledge to conduct inspections and testing in the field in order to provide accurate assessments and practical solutions for our clients.
